Difference Between Fibrillated Artificial Turf and Monofilament

Football is a game beloved by millions. Such popularity such popularity generates the need for quality football pitches. Modern technologies allow significant innovations in football field equipment, for example, in coatings. The most promising of them is artificial turf.

Football pitch itself is a complex engineering structure of a specially prepared base, drainage, watering and heating systems, as well as artificial turf, surpassing the natural in its technical characteristics. Pitch quality depends on chosen artificial turf type. High-quality surfaces contribute to a more efficient and skilled game.

Football artificial grass differs in fiber structure:

1. Monofilament

2. Fibrillated

Monofilament. Single blades of fiber that stand up straight, sometimes with a thickened spine or edges to help them stand on end. Monofilament turf is the best-looking turf because the blades stay upright longer, but it's not the most durable. It is perfect for soccer because the upright fibers lend themselves to a slower ball roll, but the nature of individual fibers means there is usually more infill splash.

Fibrillated. The artificial grass of other category has a wide rigid pile with a mesh structure. At the base of the grass has one thick thread, which is then split into narrower blades. Its advantages are faster recovery after a vertically applied load. It also preserves infill better, as it condenses, does not allow the infill to move. The lifetime of this yarn is less than that of monofilament, over time it is divided into small villi and loses strength.

From the point of view of producers, fibrillated grass is economically more beneficial. Regarding consumer characteristics, the question of benefits remains open. It is believed that professionals show the best results on monofilament coatings. However, many high-quality fields have fibrillated grass cover.

The grass for a football field also differs in the height of the pile and the type of infill.  20-40 mm height piles are widely used for mini-football. On such surfaces, you can adjust the "speed" of the game: if there is a lot of infills, the ball bounce becomes more effective, and a small amount of infill guarantees a soft comfortable game. However, a new generation of artificial grass has been developed for professional football. Pile has a length of 50-60 mm and, for an effective game, it is poured with a normalized amount of quartz sand and rubber crumb. Artificial grass with a height of 60mm is mainly used on football fields in international competitions.
